Welcome to another one of our articles designed just for you!
The history of Venezuelan Ham Bread
The history of Venezuelan ham bread is quite unique, as it didn't originate in a Venezuelan home, unlike most dishes. This Venezuelan ham bread was created and prepared in a bakery called "Ramella" in 1905. At that time, it was made only with diced ham.
This incredible Venezuelan Ham Bread began to be made almost every day until December 24th, becoming a traditional recipe for those dates. During the preparation, people began to smell the exquisite aroma coming from the "Ramella" bakery, making it one of the most popular.
From then on, all the bakeries there began to imitate this recipe, but always adding different ingredients such as olives, and despite everything, one of them remained over time: ham.
Unfortunately, it is one of the lesser-known recipes due to its origin in Venezuela and its "recent development", since it is not a recipe that was made centuries ago like Venezuelan Casabe.
That's why today we're bringing it to you exclusively, for you and all those Venezuelans who want to enjoy one of their country's traditional dishes this holiday season. So you can make it yourself, we've found the original recipe.
One of the interesting points about this recipe is that it wasn't long ago that it began to be made in homes on Christmas Day and New Year's Day so that it could be eaten fresh out of the oven.
Another interesting point is that you can not only add the ingredients we will show you below, but you can also add or remove ingredients as you wish and make it to your liking.

Original recipe for Venezuelan Ham Bread
It's time to learn the traditional recipe for Venezuelan Ham Bread. If you're from Venezuela and you're currently abroad, don't miss out on this delicious dish for the holidays.
The moment is approaching and the Venezuelan Ham Bread is coming to your table.
Ingredients for making the dough
4 cups of wheat flour
2 teaspoons of instant yeast
1/2 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of sugar
1/4 cup of powdered milk
1 egg
1 cup of warm water
3 tablespoons of butter at room temperature
These are the ingredients to start making the dough; keep in mind that with these quantities you can make two ham loaves.
Before continuing with the filling ingredients, we will begin to detail the steps to follow to prepare the Venezuelan Ham Bread.
Step-by-step instructions for making ham bread
It's time to start preparing the ham bread:
In a small bowl, place half of the warm water, the sugar and the yeast, mix well and let it rest for 5 minutes.
In a bowl, combine the 4 cups of flour, the cup of powdered milk, the remaining warm water, the beaten egg, the salt, and finally the yeast. Then, begin kneading while gradually adding the cubed butter and incorporating it into the dough. Mix all the ingredients until you have a smooth dough that doesn't stick to your hands.
Once ready, oil it completely and place it in a clean container, then cover and let it rest for 45 minutes while you preheat the oven to 176 degrees Celsius.
While the dough rests and the oven heats up, it's time to prepare the filling ingredients, and for that we will need the following.
Filling ingredients
400g of smoked leg ham
12 slices of bacon
1 cup of olives stuffed with red pepper
¾ cup of raisins
Once the ingredients are ready, it's time to continue with the dough.
After 45 minutes, divide the dough in two and roll it out on the counter. Then, add the ingredients one by one. (If you want to add something that isn't on the list, you can do so without any problem.)
Once added, begin to gently roll up the dough as if it were a Swiss roll.
Once again, place the prepared dough in a baking dish and let it rest for another 30 minutes. After that time, brush the surface with a beaten egg and bake for 20 minutes.
AND THAT'S IT!
As you can see, making Venezuelan Ham Bread wasn't that difficult, and the best part is that you can eat it both hot and cold. We recommend eating it fresh out of the oven (without burning yourself, of course).
